Program Facilitator - Full Time, Term - Competiton # 40-10
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Assess the abilities, needs and potential of adults with disabilities in terms of personal growth, leisure/life skills, self advocacy, etc. to enhance their ability to live independently within the community.
2. Develop, deliver, facilitate and evaluate personal growth programs such as Adult Drop In, Supper Club, Art Program, social, communication and needs based programs to adults with disabilities, including both group and individual programming.
3. Work in conjunction with Supervisor, Adult Leisure and Recreation Services to develop and implement the Summer Breakout Program including assisting in the planning and implementation of the Summer Access staff training.
4. Provide leadership and direction to referring agents/service providers and consumers in the area of personal growth and leisure/life skills program opportunities that are available through SMD or the community at large.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Ensure all programs (both group and individual) meet the needs of the consumer or participant by developing learning objectives, incorporating program planning skills, adult learning and developing content and a format of delivery that effectively facilitates the transference of learning.
2. Ensure that the programs of Adult Leisure and Recreation Services are known to the community at large and to potential consumers and to obtain feedback from consumers on the relevance and quality of services.
3. Establish a network of community resources of programs/services available to adults with disabilities that fall within the goals of the program and to continually update knowledge of resources.
4. Adhere to the SMD Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
5. Regularly responsible for direct support to consumers with varying degrees of complexity in activities of daily living including but not limited to helping someone dress, eat and drink, use the washroom, manage personal hygiene/health etc.
6. Responsible for all transportation requirements of the Summer Breakout program for both consumers and equipment movement throughout the program.
7. Represent Adult Leisure and Recreation Services and SMD when required at special events, forums, etc at the request of the Supervisor and/or Director.
8. Meet on a regular basis with the Supervisor, Adult Leisure and Recreation Services at designated times to discuss activities of the position, challenges/issues that may arise, professional needs, evaluation, etc.
9. Attend and participate in staff meetings as required.
10. Participate in professional development activities as required where such an activity will contribute to the over all goals of the program.
11. Keep accurate and up to date records and consumer files (hard copy and on data base). Compile all stats relevant to the primary and general accountabilities of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS
· University degree in Recreation Studies or Social Sciences is required. However, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
· 2 years experience in a leadership role in program planning and delivery.
· Excellent communication skills with sensitivity to diversity.
· Extensive knowledge in all areas of program planning with an emphasis on programming for adults with a disability.
· Experience in facilitating Leisure Inventory Assessment program.
· Excellent computer skills including website applications.
· Experience in public speaking and providing presentations to the public.
· Experience with and willing to assist consumers with varying degrees of complexity in activities of daily living including helping someone dress, eat and drink, use the washroom and manage personal hygiene and health, transfer to and from a wheelchair, and walk or move using a wheelchair or other equipment.
· Ability to work independently and/or part of a team.
· Demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
· Demonstrated enthusiasm and creative thinking.
· Knowledge of accessibility issues an asset.
· Ability to work flexible hours including evening, weekend, overnight shifts as well as overtime required.
· Basic knowledge and understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture an asset.
· Current certification in Basic First Aide and CPR required.
· Non Violent Crisis Intervention training an asset.
· Valid Manitoba Driver’s License and access to vehicle.
