Q. How will I find out who the winners are?
A. The names of all winners will be published on our website www.VIPLottery.ca under the WINNERS heading above.  If you win, we will phone you. People may register their email with lottery@smd.mb.ca and they will be sent information and winners' names.

Q. How old must you be to buy a ticket?
A. 18 years old.

Q. How many tickets are being sold?
A. The is a total of 11,900 tickets for sale.

Q. How come only one name is allowed on the ticket order?
A. Tickets are issued in the purchaser's name only in accordance with the Manitoba Gamming Control Commission regulations.  If you wish to buy tickets as a group, the purchaser is responsible for distributing any prizes in the event of a group purchase winning. 

Q. How many draws are there?
A. There is a total of 136 draws. 

Q. How much do tickets cost?
A. Tickets are $50 each or you can buy 2 tickets and get 2 free.  That's 4 tickets for $100 - that's 1/2 price or only $25 per ticket!

Q. When will I get my tickets?
A. Once ticket orders are received they will be processed and tickets are mailed directly to the person's home, or any address on the order.  ALL TICKETS will be mailed to one address only.  The usual period of time is about 2 weeks.  The Foundation keeps your ticket stub to put in the draw drum, so even if you haven’t yet received your ticket in the mail, your ticket stub is in the draw.  If you provide your email address during your ticket purchase, you will receive a priority email confirming your ticket request. 

Q. Do I get a charitable tax receipt with my order?
A. Sorry. Currently lottery tickets are not considered a charitable donation eligible for a tax deductible receipt.

Q. Do I have to pay tax on my prize winnings?
A. Lottery winnings are considered a windfall and not taxable in Canada.

Q. What does the money from ticket sales go?
A. The proceeds from the VIP Lottery will be invested into the SMD Foundation’s “General” endowment. Proceeds from the investment revenues of this endowment will be donated annually to vital  programs and services to children, youth and adults with disabilities.   With your help, these programs and services help Manitobans with disabilities regain their independence. Thanks for your support.

Q. Can I buy tickets through the internet?
A. Sorry, but a recent Supreme Court ruling means that we are no longer able to accept orders online using the internet. Please print out the brochure Download Ticket Order Form and mail it in or phone (204) 988-3333 or toll free 1-800-455-6439 to have your order processed quickly and securely.

Q. How long do I have to claim my lottery prize?
A. 60 days after the final draw.

Q. What happens to prizes that are not claimed?
A. They are donated to the SMD Foundation.

Q. Can a lottery winner remain anonymous?
A. No. We are required by law to publish the name, prize won and date of draw. 

Q. How are the draws controlled?
A. Draws are controlled in accordance with Manitoba Gaming Control Commission regulations.

Q. What happens if I lose the winning ticket?
A. You do not need the ticket to claim your prize. We have all of the necessary information to verify winners.  Your name, address and phone number is recorded in the database along with your ticket number.  If you win, we will phone you. If we cannot speak to you we will contact you by mail.  It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure the mailing address on their ticket order form is correct.

Q. How do I find past winning numbers?
A. Visit www.smd.mb.ca and click on Fundraising and Lotteries on the left side menu.  Follow the links to the Lotteries page to view past winners.
