A Sign of the Times

William was diagnosed at four year of age as being profoundly Deaf; and had virtually no language.  His involvement with the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities - SMD’s Children’s Service Coordination (CSC) in the Westman office resulted in American Sign Language (ASL) tutoring at home, and a respite worker that can communicate with William using ASL.

He also received support from CSC to find funding of much needed equipment, such as the purchase of an IPAD for language development and communication with those around him. William is now in Grade 4, involved in community activities with his friends and expanding his knowledge of ASL.
