Ready to Vote
With the upcoming federal election on October 19th, 2015, Elections Canada and Easter Seals have been working together to inform all Canadians of what they need to know leading up to Election Day. Together we are working to improve the voting experience and make it easier to participate by removing barriers while supporting the independence, respect and dignity of people with disabilities.
Canadians have diverse needs and accessibility can have a different meaning for everyone. Elections Canada’s long-term vision is for accessibility to be an ongoing process to provide inclusive, universal and flexible services that benefit everyone. Over the years, Elections Canada has progressively introduced different voting options and services to accommodate the needs of all Canadians. Much of the work in recent years has focused on reducing barriers for people with disabilities.
This upcoming elections will feature new Election Day tools and services such as:
- Magnifier with light (4x)
- Voting screen that lets in more light
- Sign language interpretation (requested ahead of time)
- Braille list of candidates
- Assistance in marking a ballot
- Tactile and Braille voting template
- Large-print list of candidates
