Sledge Hockey: Society for Manitobans with Disabilities operates the largest adapted sport in the Province with over 60 players of all ages and abilities. Currently this program plays out of the MTS Iceplex located just outside of the City. We offer 3 skill levels that meet all abilities and age.
- Novice/Recreation level: for ages 6-12 or for individuals older who wish to just play.
- Intermediate level: for ages 13 and older; this is a more structured level with players being placed on teams, scheduled practices and games.
- Advanced level: for ages 18 plus; this is the highest level players can access in the SMD sledge hockey program. Pace, skill and game concept is high at this level.
Season begins in September and ends in early March. To ensure participation SMD loans out to registered players a program sledge and a pair of sticks. This program is open to anyone age 7- and beyond of all abilities.
Sledge Hockey Presentations: community outreach is a program that offers community and school groups an opportunity to try sledge hockey; we offer clinics to school groups, hockey teams and large groups who are looking for a great team building activity, exposure to an adapted sport or just wanting to have some fun.
Electric Wheelchair Hockey: has been operating for 14 years and is played out of the St. James Civic Centre every Sunday morning beginning in September. Electric Wheelchair Hockey was implemented to meet the needs of individuals who use a power chair and/or for individuals who use a manual wheelchair who were looking for a team sport. Program is open to individuals who use a manual or power wheelchair. Individuals who use a manual wheelchair will be required to use a league electric wheelchair.
